Finally, WordPress 2.7 has been released by WordPress Team. This version is named “Coltrane” for famed jazz Saxophonist, John Coltrane, a favorite of sax playing, WordPress founder, Matt Mullenweg.
There are a lot of new features and improvements, including the new interface and the latest security updates. Check out this video to learn more about WordPress 2.7 :
I have updated my blog to WordPress 2.7 and I recommend you to do an upgrade for your blog now due to some reasons below:
- Your blog will be protected from security vulnerabilities.
- Your blog plugins - themes will be updated quickly and easily.
- Some search engines and web directories are considering penalizing page rank or not indexing old versions of WordPress due to security vulnerabilities and failure to upgrade (few spam sites upgrade). For more information, see Technorati: Vulnerable WordPress Blogs Not Being Indexed, Matt Cutts: Alerting Webmasters to Webserver Vulnerabilities, Fear, Uncertainty and Disinformation About The WordPress Exploits and Spam, and WordPress Security Prevention, Reactions, and Scares.
If you are using the Release Candidates, you will be noticed by the upgrade announcement on your blog. Before upgrading, you don't need to de-activate all installed plugins, this step is no longer necessary because WordPress 2.7 will automatically put your blog in maintenance mode, the upgrading process will perform well.
